Hi everyone!

I’m Leslie from work / play / polish. I’ve been such a fan girl of Danny’s blog for so long…I can hardly believe I’m guest posting for her!

Danny asked that I tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, USA, but had the fortune of spending six months in Europe...so I’ve visited Danny’s hometown of Hamburg, Germany more than once! I’m actually a licensed manicurist. I went to nail tech school during college…with my mother. We both graduated on the same day! I continued to do nails professionally until I finished college. Then I started my career in business and pretty much forgot about manicures. It wasn’t until the Spring of 2012 (thanks to a request from my daughter to polish her nails) that I rediscovered my nail lacquer love. I started my blog in May 2012.

Today I have a nail art design using striping tape and all four nail polishes in the Nicole by OPI Notorious! NEONS mini kit (more info here). The kit includes a White Base polish and three colors: Green Neon, Fuchsia Neon and Orange Neon. Neons are so difficult to photograph! Here is the final look.

To create this design, I started with two coats of the White Base and a coat of Seche Vite. I then placed striping tape down the center of each nail and diagonally down one side. I painted alternate neon colors between the stripes. These polishes really require two coats, but I only used one coat so the tape would remove cleanly. After I filled everything in, I removed the diagonal pieces of tape (but left the piece in the center). After it was dry, I repeated the steps on the opposite side of each nail. I finished with another coat of Seche Vite. It was really very easy!

China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy

Hi Mädels,

heute haben ich einen Oldie für euch: China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy.

Flip Flop Fantasy kam ursprünglich mit der Poolside Summer 2010 Collection heraus und ist mittlerweile wohl im Standardsortiment. Die Farbe ist ein super tolles, neon Pink-Korall. Die Farbe ist etwas pinker, als es jetzt hier auf den Fotos rüberkommt. Aber je nach Lichteinfall sieht der Lack eh anders aus.

Ich habe drei Schichten aufgetragen, da er nach der zweiten noch fleckig war. Zusätzlich habe ich eine Schicht mit meinem SpectraFlair Top Coat ergänzt. Dieser leichte holografische Schimmer macht die Maniküre noch schöner.

Was sagt ihr zu Flip Flop Fantasy? Ich schleiche schon so lange um den Lack rum. Und nach dem ich jetzt weiß, dass er wirklich so toll ist. Muss ich ihn wohl wirklich noch kaufen. Dieser Lack hier ist von einer Freundin ausgeliehen.

today I have an Oldie for you: China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy.

Flip Flop Fantasy came out in summer 2010 with the Poolside Collection. But it's still available. Its color is an amazing pink-coral. It's a bit more pink than it shows up on the pictures. But in different lights it looks different anyway.

I applied three coats to get everything opaque and even. And I added a thin layer of my SpectraFlair Top Coat. I thing this fine holografic shimmer adds a bit more loveliness.

What do you think about Flip Flop Fantasy? It's a lemming of mine for a while now. And after I know it's really that pretty everybody says, I really should buy it. This one is borrowed from a friend.

essie - saturday disco fever

Hi ihr,

heute möchte ich euch essie - saturday disco fever vorstellen. Nachdem shake your $$ makers mich so enttäuscht hatte. Hatte ich gar keine Lust mehr, saturday disco fever aufzutragen. Aber da ich auch hier die Farbe so schön finde, kam er dann doch auf die Nägel.

Saturday disco fever ist ein Neon-Orange mit leichtem Korall-Einschlag. Es ist also eine super schöne Sommerfarbe, weswegen ich ihn mir dann auch kaufen musste, obwohl ich es eigentlich nicht wollte.

Die Qualität des Lacken ist glücklicherweise besser, als bei seinem grünen Bruder. Ich habe hier zwei Schichten über weißer Base aufgetragen. Dadurch trocknete er natürlich auch schneller und sah trotzdem besser aus.

Wie gefällt euch dieses schicke Exemplar? Ist das eine Farbe für euch?

today I have essie - saturday disco fever for you. After shake your $$ makers was a big disappointment, I wasn't sure if I wanna paint my nails with another essie neon. But because I love the color I had to try it.

Saturday disco fever is a neon orange with a hint of coral. It's a pretty summer color. That's why I had to buy it.

Fortunately this quality was way better than the one from the green version. I applied two coats over a white base. It dries faster and looked better.

How do you like this exemplar? Is this a color you'd wear?

essie - fishnet stockings

Hi Mädels,

meine Examensarbeit ist abgegeben und ich kann mich endlich wieder mehr meinen Nägeln und meinem Blog widmen. Wie ihr sehen könnt, sind meine Nägel wieder sehr kurz. Da ich sie vernachlässigt habe, sahen sie nicht mehr schön aus und ich hab sie einfach komplett gekürzt. Jetzt können sie wieder schön nachwachsen.

Auf den Nägeln trage ich essie - fishnet stockings. Dieser Lack erschien unrsprünglich mit der Front Row Collection, doch kam er im Zuge der Geburtstagsaktion bei dm und der Fashion Trends Collection noch einmal heraus. 

Die Farbe ist ein bläuliches Rot mit leichtem Braun-Stich. Aufgetragen habe ich zwei Schichten.

Ich hätte mir den Lack wohl nicht selbst gekauft. Ich habe so viele rote Lacke und ein bräunliches Rot würde ich wohl nur im Herbst tragen. Aber die liebe Imke hat ihn mir geschenkt und dann musste er natürlich auch gleich auf die Nägel. Und ich bin sehr froh, dass ich ihm gleich eine Chance gegeben habe. Auf den Nägeln gefällt mir fishnet stockings sehr gut und das Bräunliche ist nicht mehr so sichtbar. Meiner Meinung nach, kann man diesen Rotton das ganze Jahr über tragen.

Wie gefällt euch fishnet stockings und habt ihr ihn vielleicht auch in eurer Sammlung?

Hi gals,

I have finaly finished my thesis and have more time for my nails and my blog again. As you can see, my nails are short again. Due to the lack of time I had neglected my nails. They didn't looked good anymore. So I cut them down that they can grow back again beautifully.

On my nails I'm wearing essie - fishnet stockings. It originally came out with the Front Row Collection. Its color is a blue-based red with a hint of brown. I'm wearing two coats.

I wouldn't have bought this polish. I have so many red ones and this ones looks like it's more a fall-red due to its brown touch. But after it was given to me I had to try it and now I am super happy I have it in my stash. I really like how it looks against my skintone and it really is wearable in all four seasons.

How do you like fishnet stockings? Do you own it?

essie - shake your $$ makers

Huhu,

heute habe ich mal einen Lack für euch, der mich leider absolut enttäuscht hat: essie - shake your $$ makers.

Shake your $$ makers stammt aus der essie Neon Collection 2013 und hat ein wunderschönes, strahlendes Grün als Farbe.

Aber kommen wir nun zum Negativen: ich habe drei Schichten über einer weißen Basen aufgetragen und der Lack war immer noch fleckig. Zudem hat es Ewigkeiten gedauert, bis der Lack ansatzweise trocken war und so hatte ich  trotz Schnelltrocknungsüberlack schnell Dellen im Lack. Um ihn richtig deckend zu bekommen, hätte ich wohl 4-5 Schichten lackieren müssen. Und das zusätzlich zur weißen Base.

Ich muss also sagen, dass ich zwar die Farbe super toll finde, aber der Lack einfach nicht schön aufzutragen ist.

Welchen Lack habt ihr euch aus dieser Kollektion gegönnt oder sind Neonlacke nichts für euch?

today I have a polish for you that really disappointed me: essie - shake your $$ makers.

Shake your $$ makers is one of the essie Neon 2013 polishes and it's a pretty vibrant green.

But now for the bad part: even after three coats over a white base it had a lot of uneven spots. Moreover it took super long to dry. Even with a fast drying top coat.

I have to say that I love the color. But this polish is paint to apply and needs probably four to five coats to get opaque.

What do you think? Did you get yourself any of these neons this year?

[Guestpost] Try My Hand

Hey hey hey everybody, 

 

I'm Sarah from Try My Hand, and I'm so glad to be writing a guest post for Danny! I started my own nail art blog just under a year ago after first getting into nail art when I was on a six-month-long language exchange in Berlin in 2010, so this guest post is combining two of my favourite things : German language and nail art!

When I was in Berlin I got a sudden urge to do some nail art, and my first ever design that I did was some watermelons on my nails, so I thought it was only appropriate for me to replicate that design for this guest post for Danny! Needless to say I've improved a lot since my first design, and the nail varnishes I used have changed as well!

  

For this design I started with OPI Jade is the New Black for the rind, and for the actual fruit I used OPI Strawberry Margerita. For the details I used OPI Mermaids Tears, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and my black Models Own nail art pen.

So I hope you've all enjoyed this post, it's the first ever guest post I've written so I'm so honoured that Danny asked me!

Ich bin Sarah von Try My Hand und ich freue mich sehr, einen Guestpost für Danny zu schreiben! Ich habe meinen eigenen Blog vor knapp einem Jahr eröffnet, nachdem ich Nail Art während eines sechsmonatigen Austausches in Berlin im Jahr 2010 für mich entdeckt habe. Dieser Guestpost vereinigt also zwei meiner Lieblingssachen: Deutsch und Nail Art!

Während ich in Berlin war, verspürte ich das Verlangen, Nail Art auszuprobieren. Und mein erstes Design waren Wassermelonen. Also habe ich mir gedacht, dass dieses Design auch perfekt für diesen Guestpost wäre. Natürlich habe ich Fortschritte gemacht seit den ersten Versuchen und auch die Nagellacke, die ich benutzt habe, haben sich verändert.

Für dieses Design habe ich OPI Jade is the New Black für die Schale und für das Fruchtfleich habe ich OPI Strawberry Margarita benutzt. Die Details habe ich mit OPI Mermaids Tears, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls und einen schwarzen Models Own Nail Art Pen benutzt.
